CASS Weekly Update 21 – 27 October 2021

All eyes are on northwestern Myanmar this week as the Tatmadaw continues to build up troops in preparation for its largest coordinated offensive since the February coup. Mass deployments to Chin State and Sagaing Region are part of the State Administration Council’s “Operation Anawrahta”, an offensive potentially unprecedented in its scale and intensity, expected to begin in earnest as soon as monsoon rains end.

CASS Weekly Update 7 – 20 October 2021

The release of detainees by the Tatmadaw’s State Administration Council (SAC) drew attention across Myanmar, despite the worsening crises of conflict, displacement, and COVID-19. On 18 October, the SAC announced the mass amnesty and release of 5,636 prisoners and detainees that the military council had jailed since the February coup.

CASS Weekly Update 30 September – 6 October 2021

On 4 October, the spokesperson of the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA), Khaing Thu Kha told local media that the Tatmadaw has been inappropriately summoning ward and village administrators for questioning about ULA/AA’s administrative and judicial activities, a move that the spokesperson warns could undermine trust, rule of law, peace and regional stability in Rakhine State.
